This original oil painting is called 'The Calm Before'.
The Calm Before is a moody striking landscape painting, inspired by my love for Turner and Rothko. With this painting I wanted to capture the tension of an impending storm. The brooding black sky that hovers over the fields has a heavy unspoken energy to it. This painting was also about creating contrast between the land and sky which I think helps with creating that sense of quiet anticipation.
With this oil painting I wanted to create something that would make the viewer pause as they look into the atmospheric depth as they imagine what they think is to come.
This small painting is about stillness and the power of mother nature.
